What To Expect

The programme consists of one ten credit module – Corporate Strategy Simulation.

During this module, you’ll learn about different ways to analyse strategies that businesses use. You’ll do this by looking at a simulation scenario where you need to action decisions from planning to execution. Then, you’ll play through this plan in a simulation, going through different rounds where you and your group will make decisions like you’re in a real boardroom. This will help you understand how companies plan their strategies and improve your teamwork and communication skills.

The assessments in this module aim to help you learn from the decisions you make. Learning is applied and will develop and challenge strategic thinking, scenario planning, and sustainable practice, while reflecting on ESG reporting, embedding emerging technologies, digitally transforming thought processes and much more.

First, you’ll learn about different strategy models. Then, you’ll create a presentation showing the strategy you want to use for the simulated company. After the simulation, you’ll analyse how well you did compared to any previous ideas.

Lastly, you’ll write in a journal about what you learned and how you can use it in your job or real-life

Programme Features


All sessions will offer students opportunities to apply the models introduced. In addition, group work will be emphasized, allowing students to interact and learn from their peers.

Action Learning

The simulation is interactive and dynamic – student teams will feel in charge of their enterprise as they make strategic management choices across iterative rounds of decision making.

Reflective Learning

Both classwork and assessment will emphasize the importance of reflection. Students will be asked to explain the outcomes of their decisions, thereby ensuring learning is achieved from the unsuccessful as well as the successful strategies implemented.

Enhanced Employability Competences

Programme design is based on research showing the benefit of strategy simulations to participants employability competences. Some of the competences shown to benefit from the use of simulations include decision making, analytical skills, business acumen, cultural awareness, organisational skills, communication skills and teamwork.

Who Should Apply?


Who wish to provide professional development and upskilling for existing or potential management staff or those seeking to progress into those roles. However, all staff members in an organisation will benefit from understanding the strategy process and the challenges with implementation.


Who wish to expand their experience in strategy development and implementation. The programme can provide further depth to business students strategy knowledge and complementary core business knowledge to non-business graduates.

Industry Background

The programme is applicable to all industries, including social enterprise and the charity sector. Participants may be public or private sector employees or entrepreneurs. All organisations need a strategy and need to know how to implement it.

Teaching Methods

Teaching on this programme will be interactive, focusing on experiential learning, culminating in the Strategy Simulation. Participants will work in teams to analyse the corporate environment and prepare a planned strategy. This strategic plan will then be implemented across an interactive and dynamic software simulation where participants will see the outcome of their decisions.

Students will gain hands-on experience with a wide variety of strategy models and become proficient in a broad strategy model toolkit that they can implement in their workplace. This programme will expose students to all stages of the strategy cycle, and the reflective nature of the programme assessment will ensure students take their learning back to their workplace.

We would suggest that applicants ideally have a Level 8 qualification in any discipline; however, applicants with significant work experience will also be considered and are eligible for our recognition of prior learning process.

Course fee: €900

All part-time programmes at MTU will run subject to sufficient student numbers. Where a programme cannot proceed, applicants will be contacted and advised on alternative study options.

Students should note that fees quoted relate to the academic year 2024-2025 only and are subject to change on an annual basis. Except where stated, course fees cover the cost of tuition only.

Students will be notified of their fees by email to their MTU email account and in all cases, course fees must be paid before attending lectures.
