Overview
This part-time programme equips learners with key skills needed to develop the performance of individuals and teams in the workplaces of today.
In Semester 1, participants will learn about contemporary performance management to identify effective practices they can adopt within their own work. They will also complete a series of four Saturday coaching workshops designed to provide them with the skills that are necessary for impactful performance management.
Semester 2 will involve participants putting their learning into practice, in the form of a work-based project, utilising evidence based practice. This will involve them devising, practicing and evaluating a new approach to their management of performance.
The combination of live and recorded content, class discussions, work-based assignments, coaching workshops and individualised project supervision will help ensure an in-depth, work-relevant learning experience and sustained professional development.
What Will I Study?
Advanced Performance Management is a two semester part-time programme designed and delivered by Chartered Work & Organisational Psychologists.
The programme offers a unique combination of advanced performance management principles and coaching techniques in semester 1, with an individual action based project in semester 2. The Leadership in Action project provides students with the opportunity to apply an evidence based approach to a current workplace scenario under the supervision of the lecturing team.
September to December
The focus is on evidence-based approaches to the enhancement of performance at work. Learners will study models of performance and motivation as well as practicing coaching skills, problem solving, goal setting and effective delivery of feedback.
January to May
Learning is put into practice. With regular one-to-one guidance from an academic supervisor, the learning from the programme is applied to make changes to the management of performance within learners’ own unique work contexts. Learners are also facilitated to reflect on their personal challenges and the organisational challenges of changing their leadership styles and to identify further areas to develop beyond the lifetime of the programme.
Modules
A module is a standalone unit of learning and assessment and is completed within one semester. A full-time student will normally study six modules in each semester; part-time and ACCS (Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Subjects) students will have flexibility as to the number of modules taken.
